August 25, the wife of Malaysian ambassador to China, Datin Fairus, and the wife of Consul General of Consulate General in Shanghai, Ms.Akiko, totally 8 people, accompanied by Vice President and director of Department of Liver Surgery of Renji hospital, Qiang Xia, came to the isolation ward of Department of Liver Surgery. They visited Malaysian biliary atresia child, Qaisara, who had received the ninth living related liver transplantation that was funded by Malaysian charity event.
Datin Fairus and her party accompanied by Professor Qiang Xia, visited child Qaisara, who was still in rehabilitation at the ward of liver transplantation. They asked in detail about the child's condition, surgery and postoperative recovery situation. They also presented plush toys, flowers and fruits to child Qaisara and wished him to recover earlier and grow stronger. Child Qaisara is the ninth case of living related liver transplantation in Malaysian children, whose surgeries were performed in our hospital since October 2014.
Ambassador's wife Datin Fairus and Consul General's wife Ms.Akiko had a cordial exchange with Dean Qiang Xia. They are deeply gratified that the children had successfully receiving living donor liver transplantation surgery in our hospital, and also felt very meaningful to personally experience the results of the charity event. Malaysia delegation was fully aware of the situation of liver transplantation in Renji Hospital during the past ten years. They also focused on the achievements and influence of liver transplantation team in Renji Hospital in domestic and foreign in the area of saving end-stage liver disease children patients. When they learned that since the implement of the first case of pediatric liver transplantation in Renji Hospital from October 2006, we have completed nearly 700 cases of pediatric liver transplantation to date, which are more than one third of the total number of the whole Chinese pediatric liver transplantation. Currently, the operation time has shortened to 5-6 hours, and 1-year and 5-year survival rate after surgery in children reached the world advanced level. The guests were marveled.
Finally, the ambassador's wife expressed her sincere thanks and praise to our hospital for providing good quality of living donor liver transplantation treatment services to Malaysia biliary atresia children. She said that they would continue to help more children in need of liver transplantation surgery to come to our hospital for surgery. Dean Xia also conveys the spirit of highly care, attention and support from Renji Hospital for Malaysian children’s living donor liver transplantation surgery in our hospital. He also hopes that both sides could jointly strive to make due contributions in the medical field for the traditional friendship between China and Malaysia.
It is reported that as requested by Malaysia and approved through diplomatic channels and relevant departments, Renji Hospital has received Malaysian children’s living donor liver transplantation since 2014. Right now nine cases have been completed, for children from the youngest 10-month-old to the oldest 2-year-old. All these children are funded by Malaysian charity event for medical treatment in China. All the surgeries are very successful. Currently both the donor parents and their children recovered well.
