The opening ceremony witnessed the launch of the Chinese program of EU Traumatic Brain Injury Research. As an official member of the research and the principal of the program, professor Jiang Jiyao sincerely invited 40 domestic hospitals to join the study. Professor Andrew Maas, chief scientists of EU Traumatic Brain Injury Research awarded certificates to both the members of the academic committee and directors of the participant centers.
The academic part of the forum began with the theme report (“study of neural circuits reconstruction after brain injury”) from professor Pu Muming, chief director of CAS’s the institute of neuroscience. Professor Pu presented the latest research progress in several fields such as low temperature therapy and consciousness disturbance treatment after TBI as well as several recent clinical trials. The audience showed great interests in the speech and gave long-time applause. Many famous domestic and foreign experts such as Professor Zhou Liangfu (chief director of the department of neurosurgery of Shanghai Huashan Hospital), Professor Zhao Jizong (chief director of the department of neurosurgery of Beijing Tiantan Hospital), Professor Povlishock (chief editor of the American Journal of Neurotrauma), Professor Maas (President of the European Association of nerve trauma and chief director of the department of neurosurgery of Antwerp University Hospital) and Professor Sean Hill (project leader of neural information research of EU Brain Plan), gave exciting speeches on various hot issues, covering the present situation of brain trauma, expert consensus of standardized treatment, novel technology of traumatic brain injury treatment as well as intensive care and patient care. The speeches emphasized on the features of TBI evidence-based medical research and focused on the key points and difficulties of clinical practice, which plays a positive role in guiding the progress and innovation in clinical diagnosis and treatment. Furthermore, during this session, with the participation of the editorial department of the Chinese journal of Neurosurgery, the professional group of Chinese Society of nerve injury trauma held a committee meeting to discuss "Chinese expert consensus on the diagnosis and treatment of long-term coma after traumatic brain injury" and finally adopted the consensus. The consensus will serve as China's first diagnostic and treatment criterion in this field and will be universalized in the country.
Our department of neurosurgery and Shanghai Institute of traumatic brain injury have been committed to the spread of the treatment theories and methods of brain trauma of traumatic brain injury through the forum. We attempt to establish standardized treatment system in line with China's national conditions and build an exchange platform for scholars at home and abroad. The forum has always made efforts to popularize the basic and clinical achievements and practical technologies in the field and to encourage academic discussion and contention. It has gradually accumulated influences in the majority of neurosurgeons and made great contribution to the standardization of diagnosis and treatment of traumatic brain injury, reflecting the academic radiation power of our hospital.
