Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation and Renji Hospital co-construct “Financial Supporting Base for Needy Maternal Near-Miss"

 To ignite the light of life and protect the safety of mothers and their children

 The inauguration ceremony of “Financial Supporting Base for Needy Maternal Near-Miss", established by the “Safety for Mothers and Infants” project of Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation, was hold in Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine affiliated Renji Hospital on the afternoon of May 24th. The Acting Secretary-General of Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation Yong Jia, the Sponsor and Fund Chairman of the “Safety for Mothers and Infants” project Haining Qiu, Honorary Chairman Yufen Wang, Dean of Renji Hospital Weiping Li, Party Secretary Lian Guo and more than 30 caring people of the “Safety for Mothers and Infants” project attended the launching ceremony. Shanghai Dragon TV host Chen Chen was invited as "A Loving Ambassador of Safety for Mothers and Infants", and Olympic Swimming Champion Yong Zhuang was invited as "A loving ambassador of Renji Hospital".

  According to Haining Qiu, the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation, founded in 1986, has been persistently committed to the public welfare cause of maternal and child health care, and established “Safety for Mothers and Infants” project in 2001 with "Mothers’ Safety and Children’s Health" as the theme. The project has established maternal and children’s healthcare clinics in poor and remote areas, equipped the clinics with basic medical equipment, held workshops to train local medical workers, promoted scientific fertility methods, financially supported free delivery for local pregnant women, in order to protect the health of women and children. In 2007, Renji hospital became the first batch of officially listed maternal near-miss consultation and emergency center in Shanghai which has a large number of maternal near-miss patients. The establishment of Renji Hospital “Financial Supporting Base for Needy Maternal Near-Miss” helps to find those most needy maternal near-miss patients, to make the most reasonable use of raised money.  After screening, assessment and other processes, the Foundation will undertake all or part of the costs for rescue and follow-up treatment of the mothers and their children, which will provide a strong social supporting system and appropriate financial assistance for the majority of maternal near-miss from poor areas.

  Weiping Li, Dean of Renji Hospital, said that since the early 1980s, with the efforts of Professor Suying Hong and other old generation, Renji Hospital has established the first maternal near-miss diagnosis and treatment center in Shanghai, which has rescued numbers of maternal near-miss and made a positive contribution for the lowest maternal mortality of Shanghai ranked in the country. He said that it was a great honor for Renji Hospital to work with Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation to promote public welfare cause of maternal and child health care and safety. Thanks to the support of all sectors of society and caring people, maternal and child health cause in Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta Region or even in the country would benefit from the high- quality medical technology of Renji Hospital.
  
 According to Director Jidong Zhang, Director of Department of Medical Affairs in Renji Hospital, as the first batch of officially listed maternal near-miss consultation and emergency center in Shanghai and Shanghai Obstetrical Heart Disease Monitoring Center, Renji Hospital undertakes a large number of consultations and rescue work of maternal near-miss. According to the Statistics from Shanghai Center for Women and Children’s Health, within 2016 Renji Hospital has undertook about 40% of the amount of maternal near-miss in Shanghai, with the total successful rescue rate of 95%, which makes a significant contribution to reduce the Shanghai maternal mortality and infant mortality and improve obstetric quality 
  
 Shanghai Dragon TV host Chen Chen and Olympic Swimming Champion Yong Zhuang attended the ceremony as "A Loving Ambassador of Safety for Mothers and Infants" and "A loving ambassador of Renji Hospital", respectively. They called on all sectors of the community to join the public welfare cause of maternal and child health. Chen Chen said: "The child is the continuation of human life. It is the responsibility of the whole community to save the maternal near-miss at full strength, to achieve every mother's happiness, and to bring the child health and hope for the future!" Yong Zhuang also called: "The whole society works together to ignite the light of life’s hope for needy maternal near-miss."
