Department of Otolaryngology, Renji Hospital, School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University is a component unit and a hearing alliance unit of Otolaryngology Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Professori Jiping L, Director of the Department, is the member of the Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Society of Shanghai Medical Association and head of Subspecialty Group of Rhinology.

The department is divided into three major subspecialties——Nose, Throat and Ear. In recent years, the department has focused on nasal endoscopic resection of nasal tumors, comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of refractory rhinosinusitis and nasal polyps, minimally invasive resection of laryngeal malignant tumors, and endoscopic surgery for chronic otitis media. The emergency and outpatient visits are up to 130,000 per year , and the annual operation volume is over 3,000. More than half of them are III and IV level surgeries, ranking the first echelon of Shanghai hospitals.

There are 22 physicians and 3 technicians, including 4 chief physicians, 3 associate chief physicians and 11 attending physicians. There are 4 master supervisors, 8 PHDS, and 14 masters.

We maintain regular academic exchanges with Johns Hopkins Hospital in the United States, Endocrine Surgery at the University of Florence School of Medicine in Italy, and the College of Health and Science at the University of Portland in the United States.

Our department has undertaken more than 10 projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Shanghai Municipal Health Commission and the Education Commission. We have won the second prize of Science and Technology achievements of the Ministry of Health, the third prize of science and technology Progress of the Ministry of Health, the third prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress, the third prize of Shanghai Medical Science and Technology Award, and the second prize of science and technology progress of the National Science and Technology Award nominated by the Ministry of Education. More than 300 academic papers, 10 monographs, and one textbook have been published.
