Concurrently, in Shanghai, the incidence of colorectal cancer has been continuously rising at an annual rate of 4.2%, leaping to the second position; however, the proportion of early diagnosis is less than 10%, and colorectal cancer mainly originates from adenomas.
Our Clinical and Research Team for Gastrointestinal Tumors has proposed novel perspectives on using traditional medications to treat colorectal precancerous diseases and block cancer progression, elucidating the mechanisms and providing new strategies for primary prevention of gastrointestinal cancers: a multicenter RCT study found that folate prevents the initial occurrence of colorectal adenomas; berberine was confirmed to reduce adenoma recurrence and prevent colorectal cancer (The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology 2020, with expert contemporaneous commentary), and this has been cited in clinical guidelines. We revealed that the mechanism of statins in preventing colorectal cancer involves enhancing Lactobacillus reuteri (Nature Microbiology 2023). Our services: screen and endoscopic resection of colorectal adenoma;novel chemoprevention for occurrence of colorectal adenomas.
