Chronic multisystem autoimmune disease characterized by pathogenic autoantibodies against nuclear antigens. Causes inflammation in skin, joints, kidneys, blood cells, and serosal membranes. Hallmarks include malar rash, photosensitivity, nephritis, and positive ANA. Primarily affects young women.
