The Presentation Ceremony of 2014 annual Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award was held on May 18. The project from director of Department of Gastroenterology in our hospital and the director of the Shanghai Institute of Digestive Disease Professor Jingyuan Fang and his research team titled "The relationship between proliferation-related signaling pathways, epigenetic modification and the incidence, early warning and prevention of gastrointestinal cancer" won the first prize of 2014 annual Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award. Meantime, the scientific achievements of the project "Research and clinical transformation of fast high-resolution immunoassay technology & reagents " led by academic leader of Department of Nuclear Medicine in our hospital, Professor Gang Huang, in collaboration with Shanghai Beyond Biological Technology Co., Ltd. and Jiangsu Institute of Atomic Medicine, won the third prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award.
The project led by Professor Jingyuan Fang titled "The relationship between proliferation-related signaling pathways, epigenetic modification and the incidence, early warning and prevention of gastrointestinal cancer", clarifies the primary prevention role of folic acid in colorectal adenomas after seven years of basic and clinical research. And for the first time they create and validate a mathematical model for early warning of incidence and outcomes of atrophic gastritis, based on patient gender, general health, family history, tastes, eating habits, and etc. The establishment of the scientific, high-accurate mathematical formulas of cancer risk has been proven to be effective through multi-center evaluation. In 2012, the mathematical model was officially incorporated into the "Chinese Chronic Gastritis Consensus". They are also the first to discover the low expression of miR-194 in paraffin mucosa and feces for early warning of recurrent progressive colorectal adenomas. The program with the advantages of simple operation, high accuracy, non-invasive and painless, is suitable for large-scale screening, and has been gradually popularized. They also found for the first time that the reduced effects of butyrate in histone acetylation in feces of long-term low fiber dietary population can cause an increase in their incidence of colorectal adenomas. The results have important reference value for the early prevention of colorectal cancer, and the Grand Forks Human Nutrition Research Center of US Department of Agriculture, also positively referenced the outcome in detail in the review.
The project led by academic leader of Department of Nuclear Medicine in our hospital Professor Gang Huang titled "Research and clinical transformation of fast high-resolution immunoassay technology & reagents", make a breakthrough in mainstream of both rapid and homogeneous types of immunological diagnostic technology through a combination of production, learning and research as well as continuous innovation based on introduction of time-resolved fluorescence technology. They developed rapid diagnostic system and homogeneous light chemiluminescence detection system through time-resolved fluorescence - POCT quantitation. They also developed series of domestic kits to fully realize the localization of both instruments and supporting reagents. They continue to develop new markers and detection kits at international leader levels through continuous basic research, which would greatly promote clinical application and popularization of TRFIA in China. Their research results have been published in nearly 181 papers at home and abroad, including 45 SCI papers. They have won 16 registration certificates issued by the State Food and Drug Administration System (SFDA), 27 authorized invention patents, 4 utility models, 1 appearance design, 1 software copyright together with 7 trademarks. These achievements have realized a total output value of over one billion, and have been widely used in various provinces all over the country.
