“SMIC Liver Transplant Program” with five years donation of over 15 million to save 200 liver transplant children

 June 13, the fifth round of charitable donation ceremony of "SMIC Liver Transplant Program" by SMIC Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (referred to as "SMIC") was held in Renji Hospital. SMIC announced that this year they donated about 4.8 million yuan to the Soong Ching Ling Foundation for Renji Hospital "SMIC Liver Transplant Program" together with 111 industry partners. It is reported that the program has raised the total amount of charity to more than 15 million yuan within the past five years to successfully save more than 200 liver transplant children.
 
 Chairman of SMIC Chairman Dr. Zixue Zhou, Honorary Chairman Mr. Wenyi Zhang, Vice Chairman Dr. Ciyun Qiu, Chief Executive Officer Dr. Haijun Zhao, Vice Chairman of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation Dunquan Jing, and President of Renji Hospital Weiping Li, Party Secretary Lian Guo, Vice President and Deputy Party Secretary, Director of Liver Surgery Qiang Xia and other leaders attended the meeting, Vice President of Renji Hospital Daxiang Wen hosted the donation ceremony.
 
 On behalf of Renji Hospital, Party Secretary Lian Guo delivered a speech, and presented souvenirs to SMIC and its friends and business partners who have participated in the program. She said that as the largest liver transplantation center for children in China and after more than 10 years of rapid development, Department of Liver Surgery of Renji Hospital has completed the most amounts of liver transplant surgeries in the past six years all over the world, with the postoperative 1-year and 5-year survival rates at the international advanced level of 93.1% and 80.0%, respectively. Currently pediatric liver transplant surgeries have reached 840 cases in the center, of which the number of poor children accounted for 70% of the total. It benefits from vigorous support by caring social institutions like the SMIC and Soong Ching Ling Foundation and others that so many children get relief. On behalf of the hospital, she would like to express heartfelt thanks to all the foundations, enterprises and people of all walks of life who have promoted the goodness of social charity to help the patient children. Hope that more enterprises and individuals of the community reach out to help these patient children, so that they could grow up with happiness and health.
 
 According to Vice President and Deputy Party Secretary of Renji Hospital, Director of Department of Liver Surgery, Professor Qiang Xia, there are about 5,000-10,000 children died from end-stage liver disease in China every year. In most cases, liver transplantation is the only way to save them. But many poor families lose their only chance to save the children because of economic reasons. In order to save these children, since April 2013 SMIC launched the "SMIC Liver Transplant Program", and donated 200-500 million each year to the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation to fund the patient children in Renji Hospital for liver transplant surgeries. Over the past five years, SMIC has accumulated more than 15 million yuan donation, which has saved more than 200 poor children from all over the country.
   
 SMIC, as one of the world's leading integrated circuit companies, has a global manufacturing and service base. Since April 2013 it has launched the "SMIC Liver Transplant Program" charity project, which has donated to the Soong Ching Ling Foundation for five consecutive years to finance poor children in Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine affiliated Renji Hospital for liver transplant surgeries. Over the past five years, SMIC has accumulated donations of 11.1 million yuan. "SMIC Liver Transplant Program" also led and affected more and more caring enterprises and individuals to participate in as a common mission and responsibility of the integrated circuit industry. This year, the industry partners participating in the program reached a new high of 111 with the amount of donation at 200 million, and the total amount of donation was more than 400 million.

 Vice Chairman of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation Dunquan Jing said that this year doubled more caring business participated in the "SMIC Liver Transplant Program" than last year.  During the ceremony, the 200th case of children's family saved by the Fund told the truth in the course of the hard work for treatment of the baby, and expressed sincere thanks to health care workers in the hospital, SMIC and enterprises and caring people participating in the donation and China Soong Ching Ling Fund.
