Shanghai Jiao Tong University Educational Development Foundation "Yiran Education Fund" held a signing ceremony at Renji Hospital on the afternoon of July 7. vice president and medical branch chairman of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine Professor Lian Guo and director of Department of Urology from Renji Hospital Professor Yiran Huang jointly signed the "Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine Yiran Education Fund Donation Agreement". vice president of Renji Hospital Daxiang Wen attended the signing ceremony.
Lian Guo said that "Yiran education fund" is the first and the only one individual donation fund project since the formal establishment of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine Educational Development Foundation in November 2014. This project will play a positive sense to improve the medical standards and service capabilities in poor areas, and complement the resident standardization training system. She sincerely hoped that the project will play an active radiation effect in leading more caring people and attracting more social capital to join in the cause of medical education.
The establishment of "Yiran Education Fund" is firstly initiated by Professor Yiran Huang from the Department of Urology of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine Affiliated Renji Hospital through donation of 500,000 yuan. It’s designed to exploit the traditional discipline advantages of urological surgery in Renji Hospital to improve the clinical diagnosis and treatment levels of urological surgery especially in poor areas, to culture urology specialists for our remote and poor areas, and to norm the diagnosis and treatment technology of common urological diseases in those areas to benefit more local patients. In addition, the fund will also be used to establish training platform for diverse important clinical technologies of urology, specialist nursing and clinical departments management, contributing to post-vocational education in secondary and tertiary hospitals in need of help all over the country.
Department of Urology in Renji Hospital is a key characteristic discipline with a long history. The department has been developing by leaps and bounds under the leadership of its director Professor Yiran Huang with the current annual number of outpatient and emergency patients over the amount of 240,000 and annual surgical volume over 10,000 units. It has complete professional sub-disciplines, with the most advanced equipments and the most advanced medical technologies, and has become the leading large-scale clinical diagnosis and treatment center of urology. At present, the subject is a National Key Specialty Construction Unit of National Health and Family Planning Commission of China, the National "211 Project" Key Specialist, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University Key Discipline. It ranks among the best in the 2014 Fu-Dan Annual Ranking List of Specialist in Chinese Hospitals and Chinese Hospital Technology Influenceings (Urology). Department of Urology in Renji Hospital is a training base of urologists designated by Chinese Urological Association and the International Association of Cavity Urology. Each year there are more than 50 urologists coming here to learn and accept all kinds of technical training.

Medical education is the key to resolve the difficulties and high expense in medical care, while education and training of medical personnel is critical to improve the successful rate in treatment of patients. While launch of the fund by Professor Yiran Huang, leaders of all walks of life have also generously donated, and the fund has reached more than 1.8 million in just two weeks of time.
