April 26, Director of Department of Cardiology in our hospital Professor Ben He once again successfully implemented two cases of left atrial appendage occlusion surgery plus a case of atrial fibrillation ablation combined with left atrial appendage occlusion surgery. Accordingly, Professor Ben He won qualification of global teaching expert of the WATCHMAN atrial appendage occlusion surgery with uniform standard. He becomes the tenth WATCHMAN global teaching expert in China and the first one in Shanghai!

  

 Left atrial appendage occlusion surgery is a new interventional therapy, mainly for the prevention of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation. It blocks the main source of thrombosis in patients with atrial fibrillation - left atrial appendage, to prevent the occurrence of stroke. This technique requires a skilled atrial septal puncture technique that needs accurate knowledge of the tissue structures associated with left atrial and also skilled occluder release technology. It is another kind of intervention technology with a broad prospect followed coronary intervention, which will bring Gospel to the majority of patients with atrial fibrillation.

  

 It is reported that to get the qualification of global teaching expert in left atrial appendage occlusion surgery, more than 40 cases of implantation must be completed independently and continuously without surgery-related complications, which must be supervised by the third party in the master of each operation with standard surgical procedures. Since the left atrial appendage occlusion surgery has been carried out, not only the whole strength from Department of Cardiology of Renji Hospital, but collaborative support from Department of Ultrasound, Anesthesia, Radiation, Cardiac Surgery and other departments of the hospital, ensure the standardized, safe, and successful implementation of each surgery. Professor Ben He led the establishment of the left atrial appendage occlusion surgery team and opened the "Atrial Fibrillation Green Clinic Channel". He also actively explores new transfer treatment model of the screening of patients with atrial fibrillation and established "Comprehensive Diagnosis and Treatment Center of Atrial Fibrillation" in Shanghai.
