A 30-year-old Indian woman, "Nik," successfully recovered from a rare multisystem inflammatory syndrome at Shanghai Renji Hospital after failed treatments elsewhere. Initially presenting with severe flu complications—including pneumonia, heart failure, and extreme inflammation—she was diagnosed through meticulous analysis of her symptoms, resembling a COVID-19-linked condition first identified in 2021. Treated with cytokine-targeted therapy and organ support, Nik showed marked improvement within days.

As part of Shanghai’s push to enhance international healthcare, Renji Hospital is among 13 public hospitals selected for a medical tourism pilot program, catering to the city’s large expat community.
