On December 27, 2024, the twelfth Pujiang Gynecologic Oncology and Minimally Invasive Seminar and the fifth Photodynamic Therapy Training Course were successfully held at Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Professor Di Wen, Chief Expert of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Renji Hospital and President of the Chinese Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, was the honorary chairperson. Professor Qiu Lihua, Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, presided over the conference. Professor Xia Qiang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Renji Hospital, addressed the conference.

Professor Qiu Lihua extended a warm welcome to all participants. She highlighted photodynamic therapy as a promising novel treatment with broad medical applications. Since 2015, Renji Hospital’s cervical team has focused on cervical disease screening, diagnosis, and treatment. In 2016, it pioneered photodynamic therapy for cervical precancerous lesions and HPV infections. By 2021, it had become one of China’s first training bases for this technology.

Professor Xia Qiang fully affirmed the work of the obstetrics and gynecology team and the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Gynecologic Oncology in recent years, particularly their remarkable progress in photodynamic therapy research and application. Through the efforts of Professors Wei Lihui, Di Wen, and Qiu Lihua, the application of photodynamic therapy in female lower genital tract diseases has been significantly expanded, and relevant clinical guidelines have been continuously refined. In 2022, the team released the world’s first bilingual expert consensus on photodynamic therapy in gynecology. This was followed by the publication of the "Photodynamic Therapy Handbook for Gynecological Applications" in 2024. These achievements have further popularized the technology, bringing hope to a growing number of female patients.
