The Department of Cardiology of Renji Hospital has a profound history and is the Key Clinical Discipline of the Ministry of Health, the 211 Key Discipline of the Ministry of Education, and one of the first batch of master's and doctoral degree granting sites in China. It is also recognized as one of the first batch of continuing education institutions of the American College of Cardiology and the national training base for cardiovascular specialists, as well as the national educational and training base for hypertension. Additionally, it serves as the national chest pain center, the national heart failure center, the national atrial fibrillation center, and the national cardiac rehabilitation center.
Cardiology is currently one of the fastest-growing disciplines globally, encompassing both exquisite cardiovascular interventional and surgical techniques and vibrant advancements in cardiac theory and practice. Currently, the Department of Cardiology of Renji Hospital is distributed across five campuses located in the east, west, south, Hangzhou Bay, and Baoshan regions. It comprises various centers specializing in coronary heart disease, cardiac electrophysiology and pacing, heart failure, pulmonary vascular diseases, structural heart disease, cardiovascular imaging, hypertension, cardiac rehabilitation, clinical research, and pharmacology. Annually, it handles over 250,000 outpatient and emergency cases, with nearly 10,000 discharges and over 11,000 surgical procedures, demonstrating its leading position in medical diagnosis and treatment capabilities, medical talent cultivation, scientific research and academic levels nationally.

The Department of Cardiology has undertaken over 60 national projects, including Key Research and Development Programs of the National Science and Technology Ministry, National Outstanding Youth Fund projects, key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, general projects, and youth projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, with a total research funding exceeding 50 million yuan. In recent years, the Department of Cardiology has published over 150 papers in cardiovascular journals including the three authoritative ones, Circulation, JACC, and EHJ, with a total impact factor exceeding 1000, including 27 papers with impact factors exceeding 10. Its research findings have been incorporated into internationally authoritative textbooks such as "Braunwald's Heart Disease: A Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine" and "European Guidelines on Cardiovascular Imaging," and other clinical guidelines and medical standards in cardiology.
