On January 26th 2016, Dr. VajiraWeerasinghe, Dean of Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, visited Renji Hospital. This is the first time that delegate from University of Peradeniya visit Renji Hospital. Dr. SHAO Li, Executive Dean of Ottawa-Shanghai Joint School of Medicine (OSJSM) and Dr. ZHOU Mi, Deputy Director of Renji President’s Office and Operations Manager of OSJSM, had a meeting with Dean Weerasinghe and extended warm welcome on behalf of Renji Hospital.
Firstly, on behalf of Renji Hospital and OSJSM, Dr. ZHOU Mi made three presentations respectively introducing Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Renji Hospital and OSJSM to Dr. Weerasinghe. Then Dr. Weerasinghe made an introduction of the Faculty of Medicine University of Peradeniya. Built in 1942, the University of Peradeniya is a public university which is located amidst great natural beauty 8km from the city of Kandy. The University has 9 faculties and four postgraduate institutes: Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Dental Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Management, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science, Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, Postgraduate Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, Postgraduate School of Medical Sciences and Postgraduate Institute of Science. And the Faculty of Medicine has 106 university academic staff with 18 professors, 57 senior lecturers, 31 lecturers and over 80 senior consultants and specialists and 20 visiting staff.
Dr. SHAO Li talked about the two medical schools with Dr. Weerasinghe and expressed her hope that outstanding students from the University of Peradeniya can come to OSJSM for study and exchange in the future. And after the meeting, Dr. ZHOU Mi took Dr. Weerasinghe on a hospital tour.
